“Take Charge of Your Future”: A New Educational Series Begins in October

Kalākaua Gardens is launching a new educational series, titled “Take Charge of Your Future,” to help seniors and caregivers plan for their care.

This series, which is being offered at no cost, is designed to help those who may not know where to begin or what types of questions to ask about planning for the care of loved ones and to encourage open, honest discussions within families.

The first session is on “Understanding Elder Care: Levels of Care and Care Options” and will be held at Kālakaua Gardens, 1723 Kalākaua Avenue, on Thursday, October 23, beginning at 5:30 pm. Refreshments will be served. Space is limited. Reservations are required. Call Kalākaua Gardens at (808) 581-2273 to register.

Session Description:
Home care? Assisted living? Our long term care system in Hawai‘i is confusing, especially for families trying to determine where in the spectrum of care their older loved one fits. How much help do they need and what happens when that changes? Learn about different levels of care and the various options appropriate for each level, including the associated costs.

Speaker:
Laurie T.S. Adamshick, Esq., is an elder care attorney and partner in Rulon & Adamshick,
Elder Care Law in Honolulu. For over a decade, she has focused on assisting older adults
and their families with the legal, financial and personal care challenges of aging. In her work,
she draws on her past experience as the primary caregiver and advocate for her late parents.
Laurie is a Veterans Administration accredited attorney and President of the Hawaii Pacific
Gerontological Society. She also serves on the Board of Directors of Kokua Mau.
